The more crucial and instructive question is not 'what happens?' when it already is happening, but rather 'cui bono' or 'who benefits?'
For broader context's sake in addressing such a question, as how minuscule, unrepresentative and unthreatening groups on the fringes of any largely conventional society suddenly emerge being named as existential threats to all that is decent and holy (etc), I find in my own studies of history that such answers may best be sought by dispensing altogether with the temptation to take any form of ideology at face value, or propaganda on its own merits.
Once one parts company with the demonstrable falsehood that proclaimants of any ideology in any political arena actually mean what they say, the question of who stands to benefit by their being proclaimed becomes a different equation entirely.
If we look at the history of any emergent or fully-consolidated cult of personality into a full-scale party-state, certain historic constants can be readily observed.
One of these predictable constants is the need for, and therefore the cultivation of... enemies.
Another is the prior careers of such cult figures, and how consistently so many of these can be seen as having switched sides, in some former struggle for political powers.
Examples of this phenomenon, of the turncoat rising to near-absolute power, on the strength of messianic portrayals of themselves by their sycophantries, are abundant.
And how did each of them seduce their faithful into swearing allegiance to them alone, and abandoning anything and everything they had ever believed themselves to believe in?
By telling them who their enemies were, and then undertaking to sponsor, organize and foment as much alleged activity against the false messiah by these 'enemies' as would prove necessary.
The question of who burned the Reichstag is answered by the same methods of inquiry as those of who pulled the trigger at Butler PA, or staged brief and isolated but much-viralized arson & counterfeit-riot events in Los Angeles, or... who first set in motion this bizarre war on women whose primary result has been to take all the momentum and legitimacy out of a century's worth of prior efforts favoring the liberation and equality of women:

Neither the occasional gender-dysphoria sufferer, nor REAL women (unless they swear allegiance to their new false messiah, and no few have, Noem , Rollins, Barrett, Huckabee-Sanders, etc, etc) have benefitted in any way from all this overblown obsession, from either camp, with the near-unnoticeable role of so-called 'transgender' individuals in American society on the whole.
So who has, then? While proclaiming with equal arrogance that everyone from Teheran to Ottawa, Sacramento to Nuuk, is also the enemy, with further enemies to be announced in due course?
Moral outrage is a powerful weapon of mass seduction.
Be very, very cautious in choosing whom you allow to aim it at your soul.
Because it is quite historically reliable that those who do, are also the ones staging, organizing and financing the necessary incidents and their subsequent viralizings, which serve only to keep your soul outraged, exactly as the false-messiahs and their apostate-apostles had intended.
