This Is the America You Won’t Hear About on Campus
Flag-Waving, Gratitude, and Pride from Those Who’ve Earned It
The patriotism I saw today in Maspeth, Queens, and that I’ve seen in other neighborhoods like Morris Park in the Bronx is real. It’s so interesting to see people waving flags, cheering for the parade, and showing love for a country that’s far from perfect but still offers them something worth celebrating.
It always stands out to me because this kind of pride usually comes from people who’ve worked hard to build a life here, often after coming from places with fewer rights, freedoms, opportunities for success, or much more challenging conditions.
Meanwhile, the loudest complaints about how awful America is tend to come from college campuses—the same places that are full of privilege, access, and opportunity. Those voices get echoed by media that seems more interested in fueling outrage than telling the whole story.
The difference between the people on the ground and the noise from certain college campuses, legacy media, and social media is hard to miss.

Aha! I see you're attending far-right nationalist rallies now. Did anyone take your photo? How will you explain to your kids that they'll never get into Harvard now? What were you thinking? ;)
